According to Bell, the school informed Katie that she had to wear their provided shoes or face being sent home. However, these shoes caused discomfort and blisters for the teenager. Bell attempted to send Katie to school with a pair of trainers the next day, but she was hesitant due to fear of repercussions.
Karl Bell believes that the school’s strict dress code is excessive, especially since teachers do not adhere to the same rules. Katie is allowed to wear the temporary shoes until her father can purchase another pair, but she is reluctant to do so.

Another grandparent anonymously shared her dismay at Grace College’s dress code policy. Her granddaughter was sent home on the first day of school for wearing plain black leather shoes, which she had worn the previous year.
