Freelance Model’s Death in Los Angeles Ruled as Homicide
A freelance model, Maleesa Mooney, aged 31, who was discovered deceased in her Los Angeles apartment last month, met her tragic end due to “homicidal violence,” as confirmed by the medical examiner on Friday.
Mooney resided at the Skye at Bunker Hill Apartments in downtown Los Angeles, and her demise was the second of two models found dead in their apartments in the city within days.
Originally, her cause of death had been labeled as “deferred,” but it has now been updated to “homicidal violence” as per the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner, with “other significant conditions” previously listed as a contributing factor.
Jourdin Pauline, Mooney’s sister, revealed to KTLA that Maleesa was two months pregnant when she passed away, expressing the uncertainty surrounding the circumstances: “It’s honestly so stressful. I have thousands and thousands of scenarios in my head of what could have happened because we don’t know.”
Mooney, who also worked as a real estate agent with NestSeekers International, specializing in million-dollar homes, had aspirations to re-enter the modeling world, according to Pauline.
The Los Angeles Police Department continues to investigate her untimely death, though no suspects have been publicly identified.
In a separate incident, Nichole Coats, another aspiring model, aged 32, was found deceased in her downtown Los Angeles apartment just two days before Mooney.
Coats’ cause of death is currently listed as “deferred” in the medical examiner’s records, and her passing is not under investigation as a homicide, as stated by the police.
