Grizzly Bear Encounter in Montana Prompts Temporary Forest Closure
In a dramatic encounter in Montana, a grizzly bear attacked a hunter on a Friday afternoon, leading to the temporary closure of a section of the Custer Gallatin National Forest. Here’s what happened:
The Encounter
A hunter and their group were in pursuit of a deer near the Yellow Mule Trail, just outside Big Sky, a popular resort area about 55 miles north of Yellowstone National Park. Suddenly, they came face to face with a grizzly bear at around 1:45 p.m. on that fateful Friday.
Bear’s Response
In a bid to protect themselves, the hunting party fired at the bear, likely injuring it during the confrontation. The U.S. Forest Service reported this.
Hunter’s Rescue
Swift action was taken as multiple crews rushed to the remote area where the hunter was mauled. They were then airlifted to Bozeman Health Deaconess Regional Medical Center for further assessment.
