Charged with Murder: Woman and Man Arrested After Human Remains Found at Seaside Path

A woman aged 38 and a man aged 48 are facing murder charges after human remains were discovered along a popular seaside path. The remains were found by a member of the public near Manor Steps Zig Zag, located off Boscombe Overcliff Drive in Dorset, on Saturday, August 26th.

Following careful scientific examination, the victim has been identified as Simon Shotton, a 49-year-old resident of Bournemouth. The individuals charged with murder are Debbie Ann Pereira and Benjamin Lee Atkins, both of whom are from Bournemouth. They are scheduled to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, September 5th.

The incident triggered an immediate murder investigation by the police after the discovery of the remains. Pereira and Atkins were subsequently arrested in connection with the case.

Detective Inspector Neil Third, leading the Major Crime Investigation Team at Dorset Police, expressed condolences to Simon Shotton’s family and shared that they have been informed about the latest developments in the investigation. He highlighted the thorough and intricate nature of the inquiry, which led to the decision to authorize murder charges after consulting with the CPS (Crown Prosecution Service).

As the case now enters active court proceedings, Inspector Third stressed the importance of refraining from further online discussions or sharing of information on social media that might prejudice the ongoing legal proceedings. He emphasized that allowing the justice system to follow its course is paramount during this time.
