Jada Pinkett Smith’s Revelation: A Six-Year Separation
In a candid interview with People Magazine, Jada Pinkett Smith, the 52-year-old actress, revealed that she and her husband, Will Smith, spent six years apart before the 2022 Oscars. Their marital status, however, remains somewhat enigmatic.
“We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together,” she said, referring to their relationship. “We just got deep love for each other, and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us.”
While Jada did not clarify if they are still separated or not, she did acknowledge a significant event in their journey. In 2020, she publicly admitted to a years-long affair with singer August Alsina.
Jada and Will, 55, have been married since 1997 and share two children, Jaden, 25, and Willow, 22. Will also has a third child, 30-year-old Trey, from a previous relationship.
In the interview, Jada praised her children, describing them as “little gurus” who have taught her self-acceptance and unconditional love. She emphasized the importance of being both a giver and a recipient of such love.
The conversation also touched on the unexpected Oscars incident in 2022, where Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock on stage following a joke about Jada’s shaved head. Jada initially thought it was a skit but realized its authenticity when Will returned to his seat.
Jada, the host of the online talk show Red Table Talk, shared that she turned to the psychedelic drug ayahuasca to cope with her depression and suicidal thoughts. The experience, she said, gave her a newfound, intimate relationship with herself, and the first time she tried it, her suicidal thoughts vanished.
This interview coincides with Jada Pinkett Smith’s promotional tour for her new book.
