Residents Complain of Massive Pile of Manure Dumped Near Homes
Residents in Hullbridge, Essex, are voicing their frustration and discomfort as they claim that around “20 tonnes” of manure has been dumped near their homes, resulting in a foul smell and an overwhelming presence of flies. The situation has left them fuming, demanding answers.
Frank McArthur, a 71-year-old resident, described the distressing scene where two substantial piles of manure were left in a field behind his home during a recent heatwave. These heaps of waste were placed there by Rochford Council as part of a tree-planting initiative.
Frank McArthur expressed his dismay, stating, “We’re uncertain about how long this will remain, but approximately 20 tonnes of compost manure has been deposited right next to our houses. The field is quite vast, so there were other options for placement, but it ended up right next to our homes. It’s truly shocking.”
He went on to describe the noxious odor and the swarms of flies that have become a daily nuisance. “The smell is horrendous, and there are thousands of flies too. Even with this heat, we can’t open our windows. To have such a substantial amount placed just 15 meters from someone’s doorstep is highly unhygienic, to say the least.”
Frank reported the situation to a local councilor, Stuart Wilson, who visited the site to assess the issue. Councillor Wilson acknowledged the problem, saying, “There are two large piles, and in this heat, it’s quite pungent, with an abundance of flies. I’ve reported it to the council and brought it to their attention, and they are currently addressing the matter.”
Residents, along with Councillor Wilson, expressed their surprise at the scale of the dump and the discomfort it has caused, especially during the hot weather. They emphasized the need for prompt resolution of the issue to alleviate the unpleasant conditions they have been enduring.
In a related matter, residents in the same town have complained about an infestation of flies and a pervasive, unpleasant odor described as “boiled chicken and death,” though the cause of this issue remains unknown.
