Teen Driver in Custody After Striking Bicyclists in Southern California Beach City

A teenage driver is in custody, suspected of intentionally striking three bicyclists, which resulted in the death of one, in a Southern California beach city over the weekend, according to the police.

Series of Hit-and-Run Incidents

It all began with a hit-and-run incident around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday night in Huntington Beach. A bicyclist reported that a black Toyota had sideswiped him, causing minor injuries.

Shortly thereafter, about 15 minutes later, another cyclist found himself aggressively sideswiped by a black Toyota, not far from the first incident. And just 15 minutes after that, a black Toyota sedan struck 70-year-old Steven Gonzales. He was alive when paramedics arrived but tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Teen Suspect Apprehended

The following day, on Tuesday, officers located the suspect's vehicle in Huntington Beach. This discovery led to the identification of the teenager as a suspect, although the teen's identity was not disclosed. The arrest occurred around 9 p.m. However, we do not have information regarding the suspect's age.

Crashes Believed to be Intentional

Investigators believe that all of these crashes were intentional, but the police have not revealed any possible motive behind these disturbing events.

As of Wednesday, the teenager remains in custody at Orange County Juvenile Hall, as reported by the Orange County Register. The situation is being closely monitored as authorities continue their investigation.
