Tragedy Strikes as Retired Police Chief Targeted in Fatal Hit-and-Run

In a chilling incident that shocked the nation, a laughing teenager intentionally crashed a stolen car into retired police chief Andreas Probst, resulting in his tragic death. The incident, captured in a viral video, has left Probst's widow, Crystal Probst, deeply angered and calling for justice.

Probst, a 64-year-old retired California police chief, was on his routine morning bike ride on August 14th, 2023, when the 17-year-old driver struck him at approximately 6:04 a.m. near North Tenaya Way and West Centennial Parkway in Las Vegas. Despite being alive immediately after the collision, Probst succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to the hospital.

The shocking video footage reveals a callous exchange between the driver and a giggling passenger. The driver asks, "Ready?" as the passenger records the impending collision on his iPhone. The passenger instructs the driver to "hit his a--," and the car swerves into the bike lane, striking Probst, who was wearing a red shirt and shorts, propelling him over the car's hood.

After the collision, the passenger exclaims, "Damn, that n---- got knocked out!" while the driver, clearly panicked, suggests they flee the scene.

The young driver, whose name remains undisclosed due to his age, was apprehended by the police and subsequently placed in Clark County Juvenile Hall on charges related to the hit-and-run. However, the situation took a more grave turn when the disturbing video surfaced two weeks later. The footage led to the elevation of charges against the teenager to murder.

The individual who recorded the shocking incident remains at large.

Andreas Probst, who retired from law enforcement in 2009 after 35 years of service, had relocated to Las Vegas and worked in global security. His daughter, Taylor Probst, received an alert from his Apple Watch on the morning of the accident, indicating that he had fallen. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered Probst's helmet, bike, and phone scattered on the road. Tragically, he had already been taken to the hospital and passed away.

The Probsts were on the cusp of celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary, leaving their family devastated by the senseless act that took a beloved husband and father figure from their lives.
