The aircraft, registered as Embraer PT-SOG, had departed from Manaus, the capital of Amazonas and the largest city in the Amazon. Its journey was marred by heavy rain as it attempted to land, eventually leading to the tragic crash, as described in local media accounts.

The passengers aboard were Brazilian tourists, who had embarked on their journey with the intention of enjoying a fishing trip, as per the reports.

At the time of the accident, there were 12 passengers on board, accompanied by the pilot and copilot, according to a spokesperson from Barcelos city hall, who shared this information with Metrópoles.

In the wake of this devastating incident, local authorities, along with the Brazilian Air Force, have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

For now, the Brazilian aviation authorities, known as Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil, have not responded to requests for comments from Fox News Digital.
