Tragic Shooting Near Albuquerque Baseball Stadium Claims Life of 11-Year-Old

In a heartbreaking incident near a minor league baseball stadium in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Wednesday night, an 11-year-old child lost their life, and an adult suffered critical injuries as a result of a shooting, according to the local police.

The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) reported that the incident occurred around 8:44 p.m. when a suspect fired multiple shots on Avenida Cesar Chavez near University Blvd, close to the Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park.

Tragically, the young boy, who was riding in a vehicle, was struck by gunfire and lost his life. Meanwhile, a woman, also hit by bullets, was rushed to the hospital and is currently in critical condition.

Police Chief Harold Medina, speaking to the media early Thursday morning, revealed that the Albuquerque Isotopes, a Minor League Baseball team, were playing at the stadium during the incident. Fortunately, several police officers were already on-site, monitoring the game, and they swiftly responded to the shooting.

Chief Medina described the scene as challenging, given that it occurred in the presence of multiple officers and bystanders. A specialized homicide investigative team has been deployed to investigate the incident.

It remains unclear if the two victims are related. The area surrounding the shooting includes the University of New Mexico campus, University Stadium, the McKinnon Tennis Stadium, the Santa Ana Star Field, and the University of New Mexico Track & Field and Soccer Complex.

As of early Thursday morning, no suspects or persons of interest have been apprehended. The area has been cordoned off to the public, and a thorough investigation is ongoing.

The Albuquerque police are urging anyone with potentially valuable information related to the case to come forward and assist in the investigation.

In a separate note, the visiting Reno Aces emerged victorious in Wednesday night's game, defeating their opponents 7 to 5.
