Bomb Threat Forces School Closure in Oregon

A bomb threat targeting Summit High School in Bend, Oregon, has prompted authorities to cancel classes and activities scheduled for Monday. The threat, which appeared on social media last Saturday, led Bend-La Pine Schools to inform families about the situation on Sunday evening, according to KTVZ.

In a statement, the school district explained, "After a meeting this evening with our law enforcement partners, we made the difficult decision to cancel all classes and activities at Summit High School on Monday, Sept. 11, in response to a threat that was posted on social media this weekend." The message further emphasized that law enforcement agencies are actively investigating the threat and recommended that students stay home.

The threat referred to Summit High School using menacing language, mentioned the use of a destructive device, and coincided with the upcoming anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

As a precaution, all after-school activities, including sports practices and games, have also been canceled due to the bomb threat.

Authorities are collaborating with the Bend Police Department, Oregon State Police, and the FBI to assess the credibility of the threat. The school premises underwent an initial search, and a follow-up search with the assistance of a trained Oregon State Police canine is planned for the morning.

Families have been urged to contact the police if they possess any information regarding the individual responsible for the threat. The district has committed to providing an update to families by Monday evening. However, as of now, the police have not identified a suspect.

Monday marks the 22nd anniversary of the tragic 9/11 terrorist attacks, a solemn day in American history.
