The chase unfolded as officers responded to reports of the mischievous lemur running amok in the city. On Tuesday, the Springfield Police Department shared the body camera footage, showcasing the humorous pursuit.
In the video, the lemur skillfully evades the police officers on multiple occasions, even when it seems to be cornered. One officer can be heard exclaiming, "we see the tail!" as they strive to apprehend the elusive creature.
However, persistence paid off, and officers eventually managed to capture the lemur. The video captures a heartwarming moment when an officer gently wraps the lemur in a towel.
The Springfield Police Department expressed gratitude towards the local community, stating, "With the help of a couple kind citizens, we were able to get this little fella safely captured," in a Facebook post.
It's important to note that owning wild animals as pets is prohibited by a city ordinance. Consequently, the lemur's owner surrendered it to animal control.
The furry escape artist was subsequently transferred to a local wildlife rescue agency, ensuring it will receive proper care and affection.
