Matt James Cheers On His Mom's Quest for Love on The Golden Bachelor

Former Bachelor star, Matt James, is excited for his mother, Patty James, to find love on the upcoming senior-led ABC dating series, The Golden Bachelor. The show follows Gerry Turner's pursuit of a second chance at romance. Matt showed his support for his mom by sharing a heartwarming message on his Instagram Story, accompanied by a fire emoji and SZA's song "Snooze."

Recently, ABC unveiled the lineup of women competing for Gerry Turner's heart. While most of the contestants are new to reality TV, Patty previously appeared on Matt's season of The Bachelor in 2021. Patty, 70, expressed her excitement on Instagram, sharing a photo of the cast following the announcement.

Patty's past includes a marriage to Manny James, which ended when their children were young. During a January appearance on The Tamron Hall Show, Matt revealed that his dating struggles were influenced by his parents' divorce. He joined The Bachelor with the intention of breaking away from negative relationship patterns.

In 2021, Matt made history as the franchise's first Black Bachelor and found love with Rachel Kirkconnell. Matt's priorities in a partner include intelligence, a good sense of humor, and a focus on health. He wanted someone he could introduce to his mom, making his connection with Rachel more special.

Rachel Kirkconnell expressed her support for Patty's journey on The Golden Bachelor. Matt's close friend and former roommate, Tyler Cameron, also believes Patty would be a great addition to the show.

The Golden Bachelor, a spinoff that features senior contestants, was approved in May. Gerry Turner, 71, was announced as the lead after years of searching for senior participants. Gerry, previously married to his high school sweetheart, Toni, is eager to embark on this new adventure. His family, including his daughters and granddaughters, is excited for his Bachelor Nation debut.

One significant difference in Gerry's season will be the Fantasy Suite date nights. Gerry humorously mentioned that activities might differ from those in their 20s and 30s. While he isn't nervous about these dates, his family is a bit more cautious.

The Golden Bachelor premieres on ABC on Thursday, September 28, at 8 p.m. ET.
