Trooper Dragged During Traffic Stop in Massachusetts

In a recent incident that unfolded in Brockton, Massachusetts, a state trooper found himself in a perilous situation during a routine traffic stop. The Massachusetts State Police have released a video capturing the harrowing moments when one of their troopers was dragged by a vehicle after pulling over a suspect wanted on fentanyl charges.

The individual involved in this incident, identified as 31-year-old Derek Lobo, was later apprehended by law enforcement.

The incident occurred shortly before 6:00 PM on Montello Street when the trooper stopped a Mercedes-Benz sedan for motor vehicle violations, as stated by the Massachusetts State Police.

The video footage begins with two troopers engaging with the driver of the pulled-over Mercedes-Benz sedan on the side of the road.

As one of the troopers leaned into the car, which had its driver-side front door open, the vehicle suddenly accelerated down the road, with the trooper desperately trying to hold on.

Unfortunately, the trooper lost his grip and fell onto the road, sliding in the direction of oncoming traffic. He quickly got up and sprinted back to rejoin his colleague in their police cruiser, and both troopers began pursuing the suspect.

Subsequently, Massachusetts State Police announced that Derek Lobo was located at a residence in Brockton, his hometown situated south of Boston.

Lobo faced multiple charges, including Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Trafficking in Fentanyl, among others, prior to his arrest.

The arrest of Lobo followed an intensive investigation carried out by the State Police Troop D Community Action Team (CAT) and the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, with multiple troopers from both units participating. The trooper who arrested Lobo was the same one who had been dragged during the incident.

As of now, Derek Lobo is being held at a State Police barracks in Middleboro.
