26-Year-Old Arrested in Violent Attack on University Student in Madison, Wisconsin

In a disturbing incident that occurred early Sunday morning, a University of Wisconsin-Madison student was left with life-threatening injuries after a brutal assault on a sidewalk in Wisconsin's capital. Madison police have apprehended a 26-year-old resident named Brandon A. Thompson in connection with the crime.

Thompson faces charges of first-degree sexual assault, first-degree reckless injury, and strangulation, as confirmed by Madison police spokeswoman Alyssa Cains.

The victim was discovered by police at approximately 3:20 a.m. on Sunday, not far from Lake Monona. She sustained severe injuries and was promptly transported to the hospital. Initial reports indicated that the attacker was an unknown individual. However, jail records indicate that Thompson was taken into custody shortly after 7 a.m. on Wednesday.

A friend of the victim, speaking to Milwaukee's WISN-TV, revealed that the victim had suffered a broken jaw, as well as enduring strangulation, physical assault, and sexual assault. An anonymous neighbor added that the victim had been abducted from the sidewalk and forcibly moved between two houses.
