YouTube Stars Face Backlash Over Daughter's Debut Song

YouTube personalities Cole and Savannah LaBrant recently released their 10-year-old daughter Everleigh's first song, "Like Taylor Swift." The song's debut on September 4th sparked immediate criticism on TikTok, with listeners taking issue with its heavy use of autotune and focus on Taylor Swift's hits.

In the song's lyrics, Everleigh, performing under the name "Everleigh Rose," sings about her admiration for Taylor Swift, stating, "My hair is blowing through the wind / Taylor Swift on the radio all weekend." She goes on to express her love for Taylor Swift's music and her desire to emulate her songs.

Some TikTok users drew comparisons between Everleigh's track and Rebecca Black's viral hit, "Friday," from 2011.

JoJo Siwa, who has appeared in the LaBrants' YouTube videos, came to Everleigh's defense on TikTok. Siwa, now 20, shared her own experience of growing up in the public eye and urged critics to be more compassionate, emphasizing that bullying a 10-year-old is neither cool nor funny.

Siwa praised Everleigh's song as "adorable" and "insanely catchy" and called out critics, saying they should be embarrassed for publicly bashing a child's work. She also commended Everleigh for her kindness and hard work.

In her TikTok video, Siwa sang along to "Like Taylor Swift" and encouraged those who had expressed negativity to "calm down."

As of now, neither Everleigh nor her family has responded to the backlash surrounding the song.

Cole and Savannah LaBrant, who married in 2017, have four children together: Everleigh, Posie (4), Zealand (3), and Sunday (14 months). Everleigh was born to Savannah from a previous relationship, with Cole being her stepfather.
