Inmate in Tennessee Jail Gives Birth Alone in Cell, Receives Medical Care

In a surprising incident, an inmate at a Tennessee jail found herself giving birth alone in her cell, despite seeking medical assistance, as reported by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

The inmate and her newborn were later taken to the hospital for further care, and both are reported to be in stable condition, according to a statement issued by the sheriff's office on Tuesday.

A thorough review conducted by the sheriff's team revealed that the inmate, who was housed in a designated medical pod, alerted a deputy about a medical concern at precisely 11:31 a.m. The deputy promptly contacted the medical staff, leading to a licensed practical nurse examining the inmate's condition. Subsequently, the nurse consulted with other medical professionals to ensure the best course of action. A registered nurse then arrived to conduct a follow-up assessment.

Following this, the medical staff left the cell but continued to monitor the situation closely, even ordering additional medical tests. During this time, deputies maintained their vigilance, consistently checking on the inmate's well-being.

However, at 12:41 p.m., another response was necessary as the deputy returned to the inmate's cell and made a startling discovery: the inmate had given birth while still in her cell.

Acting swiftly, the deputy provided assistance to the inmate while simultaneously alerting the medical staff and emergency medical services. After receiving initial treatment within the confines of the jail, both the mother and her newborn were transferred to a hospital for further medical attention.
