Indiana Mother Admits to Drowning Children Under Disturbing Circumstances

In a heartbreaking and harrowing turn of events, Brittany Danielle Medina, 33, confessed to local authorities that she took the lives of her own two young children after a disturbing episode involving drug use and the hearing of troubling voices that compelled her to "send her children to heaven."

According to court records cited by The Herald-Times, Medina presented herself at the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office on a fateful Tuesday and openly admitted to deputies that she had tragically ended the lives of her three-year-old son and one-year-old daughter.

Medina's chilling account began with her consumption of Xanax, a suboxone strip – a medication used in treating opioid addiction, and snorting three lines of cocaine on the evening before the incident. The following morning, Medina, her children, and her boyfriend began their day at approximately 6:30 a.m. As her boyfriend left for work, she remained alone with her two children, providing them with nourishment and engaging them in watching cartoons.

However, her day took a dark turn around 2:30 p.m., as she revealed that she heard voices in her head commanding her to "send her children to heaven today," or else they would face grave harm. Medina claimed that these voices threatened the torture of all three, herself included, if she failed to act.

Following these disturbing instructions, Medina proceeded to the bathroom in her home, filling the bathtub with water. She then brought her children into the bathroom, expressing her love for them with kisses before submerging them both under the water, gripping their necks until her young son ceased to have a pulse and both children stopped moving.

Medina left the bathtub, changed into dry clothes in her bedroom, and upon her return to the bathroom, discovered her lifeless children lying motionless in the still water.

Promptly, she left her residence, heading to the sheriff's office where she conveyed the chilling events to deputies and handed over her home key.

Approximately 20 minutes later, law enforcement personnel entered her home and found the lifeless bodies of her two children in the bathtub, suggesting they had drowned. Indiana State Police took over the crime scene, and the Lawrence County Coroner's Office removed the children's bodies that night.

Medina now faces arrest on two preliminary counts of murder and is being detained without bond. Indiana State Police have further requested two additional charges of neglect of a dependent child causing death.

This tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of mental health and the profound impact of substance abuse on individuals and their families.
