Judge Clears Chicago Man After 34 Years in Prison for Double-Murder Conviction

On that day, two 14-year-old boys, Prudencio Cruz and William Sanchez, lost their lives to a shooting. Cook County Judge Sophia Atcherson made a significant ruling that has now paved the way for a potential reversal of Francisco Benitez's conviction. Joshua Tepfer, a member of Benitez's legal team from the Exoneration Project, couldn't help but highlight the unusual frequency of overturned convictions in Cook County. "This situation is far from normal," Tepfer emphasized, noting the unsettling trend of convictions being reevaluated and reversed. He described it as an alarming situation that raises concerns about human rights violations.
