Heroic Rescue in Berlin as 40 People Lift Bus to Save Young Man

In a remarkable act of heroism, a young man narrowly escaped serious harm after being trapped under a bus in Berlin. Approximately 40 individuals came together to lift the heavy vehicle, ensuring his safety, in an incident described by the police as a heroic rescue.

The 18-year-old found himself in a precarious situation when he stumbled while trying to catch a departing bus on Monday afternoon. As he fell, a tire from the bus's rear axle pinned him down.

Quickly responding to the emergency, the bus driver halted the vehicle. With the combined efforts of passengers and bystanders, they managed to raise the right side of the bus sufficiently to free the trapped young man.

Frank Kurze, one of the volunteer rescuers, shared his perspective on the chaotic scene, stating, "I saw the men trying to lift the bus, and it was clear to me that I also had to help lift the bus and try to pull the young man from underneath."

Surgeons and nurses from a nearby medical center rushed to the scene to provide immediate first aid. Michelle Rueckborn, one of the responding nurses, recounted, "We were at work when we heard screams, and our boss looked out of the window and saw what had happened, and said ‘Take the doctor’s case and run.'"

The injured man, though fortunate to escape more severe injuries, did suffer scrapes, bruises, and an arm injury. Sandra Grunwald, another nurse, described his state as responsive but bewildered.

Following the rescue, the injured man was transported to a hospital, where he underwent surgery. While N-tv reported that he has been released, Berlin police were unable to provide further information regarding his current condition.

Berlin police have initiated an investigation to determine how the young man became trapped under the bus. They commended the collective effort of those who intervened, hailing them as "heroes."

Expressing their gratitude, the police department took to social media, stating, "Thank you, Spandau, thank you, Berlin."

Sandra Grunwald, one of the nurses involved in the rescue, shared her positive sentiments, saying, "I think it’s nice that one can still more or less have trust in society," emphasizing the shared concern that brought so many people together in this critical moment.
