Gwyneth Paltrow Backs Her Daughter's Modeling Career
Gwyneth Paltrow, the acclaimed actress and businesswoman, has spoken out against the term "nepo baby," which refers to the offspring of famous individuals pursuing careers in the same field. She expressed her support for her daughter's modeling career and her hope that her children can pursue their passions without fear of judgment.
Paltrow's remarks came in an interview with Bustle magazine, during which she discussed her 19-year-old daughter, Apple Martin, whose father is Coldplay singer Chris Martin. Apple recently made her modeling debut in Chanel's show at Paris Fashion Week in January.
The phrase "nepo baby" became widely recognized on the internet last year as people noticed the success of many rising stars who happened to be related to established celebrities. Examples include Maude Apatow (related to director Judd Apatow), Brooklyn Beckham (son of David and Victoria Beckham), and Jaden and Willow Smith (children of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith).
Paltrow reflected on the culture of judgment surrounding kids of famous people, stating that Apple is just a student who wants to enjoy her youth, be at school, and learn. She emphasized that there's nothing wrong with aspiring to follow in one's parents' footsteps and that it's akin to a child wanting to become a doctor like their father or grandfather.
She went on to explain that growing up in an artistic household naturally influences one's interests, just as growing up in a legal family might spark a passion for law. Paltrow found the term "nepo baby" to be unflattering and expressed her hope that her children always feel free to pursue their true desires, regardless of public opinion.
Paltrow, who also heads the lifestyle brand Goop, mentioned that Apple appreciates the brand and its products but prefers not to be directly involved with it.
In the past, Gwyneth Paltrow showed support for Hailey Bieber, the niece of Alec Baldwin, when she wore a shirt with the words "nepo baby." Paltrow humorously commented that she might need a few of those shirts.
As a successful actress and businesswoman, Paltrow's perspective on the challenges faced by celebrity children sheds light on the complexities of growing up in the spotlight. Her message remains clear: it's essential for her children to be free to follow their passions, irrespective of the public's perception.
