Teens Arrested in Washington D.C. Crime Spree: Robbery and Carjacking Charges

In a series of troubling incidents, five teenagers have been apprehended and charged in relation to a string of robberies and carjackings across Washington D.C. One of these incidents involved an attack on a Grubhub driver. The arrests were made public by the police on Wednesday.

The suspects, aged between 13 and 16 years old, appeared before a court session on Wednesday, according to FOX DC. The group comprises two 13-year-old girls, along with three boys aged 14, 15, and 16. Due to their juvenile status, their identities remain undisclosed.

Charges laid against the teens are numerous, encompassing assault with an intent to rob and unauthorized vehicle usage. Additionally, one of the 13-year-old girls is facing charges of theft, two counts of robbery, and an unarmed carjacking.

An incident during which a bystander captured video footage shows an attempted carjacking. A compassionate individual intervened to help the driver fend off the young suspects. The suspects eventually fled the scene in a stolen car. Startlingly, a suspect brandished a golf club from the backseat of the stolen Toyota Camry, as reported by a news outlet.

The carjacking target, employed by Grubhub, recounted the ordeal. He had just completed a delivery and noticed the Camry tailing him. After entering his vehicle, one of the teenagers repeatedly struck him while another attempted to pull him out.

Expressing concern for his safety, the delivery driver lamented the impact on the community and fellow drivers. He questioned the motives of the young assailants, wondering why they were not in school.

The altercation moved onto the street, where a helpful bystander intervened.

Authorities assert that the suspects also attempted to rob another person on a bicycle, using the golf club to inflict harm. Following this, they crashed the stolen vehicle. A police helicopter was involved in tracking the suspects, ultimately leading to their arrest at the crash site.

During the court hearing, a 14-year-old was released under certain conditions, including a curfew, electronic monitoring, drug testing, and mandatory school attendance. Conversely, one teen was not released due to a past carjacking arrest in Maryland six months ago, local news reports disclosed.
