Escaped Prisoner Apprehended, Set to Face Court

Escaped prisoner Daniel Khalife is set to make a court appearance today, charged with breaking free from Wandsworth prison in South London. The 21-year-old's daring escape led police on a four-day manhunt.

Khalife was arrested on a canal towpath in Northolt, West London, on Saturday morning, a whopping 12 miles away from the prison he had fled. He now faces charges related to escaping from custody and is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

His capture occurred around 10.41am, when a plain-clothed counter-terrorism officer apprehended him after he dismounted a bicycle. Khalife was carrying a sleeping bag, a change of clothes, a bottle of water, and a Waitrose cool bag that seemed to contain food.

This dramatic arrest marked the conclusion of a 75-hour manhunt, which involved the efforts of more than 150 anti-terror police officers. Khalife, a former soldier awaiting trial in November for alleged terrorism offenses, had been held at Wandsworth prison.

Before his escape, Khalife faced charges for allegedly leaving fake bombs at an RAF base in January. Additionally, another charge under the Official Secrets Act accused him of collecting personal information about soldiers from an MoD computer system, information potentially valuable to an enemy.

The saga of Khalife's escape and subsequent capture serves as a reminder of the tireless efforts of law enforcement in ensuring public safety and upholding the rule of law.
