Dallas Police have released body camera footage of a dramatic shootout and subsequent arrest of an illegal immigrant. This individual is accused of fatally shooting his roommate in broad daylight and injuring a police officer.

The incident unfolded last Thursday when Officers Derek Williams and Christopher Mazin were driving near a business on Scyene Road. They spotted a man, later identified as 45-year-old Juan Vicente Zavala Lopez, firing shots at someone inside a truck.

Without hesitation, the officers parked nearby, drew their weapons, and confronted the suspect. Zavala Lopez fired at the officers, hitting their patrol car. In response, the officers returned fire and then resumed chasing the suspect.

As the pursuit continued on Second Avenue, Zavala Lopez suddenly executed a U-turn and drove back toward the officers. They had stopped and exited their vehicle. Officer Williams engaged in a gunfight with the suspect, resulting in Williams being hit on his ballistic vest. The patrol car also took several hits.

A subsequent search led authorities to a residence in Lewisville. The Dallas Police Fugitive Unit, along with Dallas Police SWAT and Lewisville Police, coordinated efforts to apprehend the suspect. Zavala Lopez was discovered in a barn on the property and taken into police custody. He now faces charges of murder and aggravated assault for the initial shooting, along with four additional counts of aggravated assault against police officers.
