Corrections Officer Arrested for Alleged Drug Smuggling at Bernalillo County Jail

In a startling development, a corrections officer at the Bernalillo County jail finds himself behind bars, facing grave accusations of smuggling drugs into the facility. The authorities made this revelation on a Friday.

The 19-year-old individual, Grant Haneckow, has been apprehended and duly processed into the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center. His arrest stems from allegations of bringing prohibited substances into a place of incarceration and participating in the illicit trafficking of controlled substances.

This Albuquerque-area corrections officer has come under suspicion for purportedly sneaking Suboxone into the jail where he was employed. Suboxone, a prescription medication used to combat opioid addiction, was allegedly discovered in his possession in the form of 40 sealed strips.

Joseph Trujeque, the president of the union that represents corrections officers at the Metropolitan Detention Center, has indicated that the union is unlikely to provide Haneckow with legal representation. This stance arises from the gravity of the criminal offenses he is alleged to have committed.

Maggie Shepard, a spokesperson for the New Mexico Law Offices of the Public Defender, has confirmed that their office will represent Haneckow. Nevertheless, at this juncture, no public defender has been officially assigned to his case.
