Thieves Swipe $50,000 Worth of Gucci Merchandise in California Heist

In a daring heist that unfolded at a Gucci store in California, a group of masked thieves made off with $50,000 worth of luxury items last week, according to the police's announcement on Tuesday.

The incident took place at Valley Fair Mall in San Jose, where reserve officers from the San Jose Police Department were on duty for a second job. They swiftly responded to an organized retail theft at the high-end retail establishment.

The culprits, numbering five, managed to outwit a security guard stationed at the store's entrance. In a matter of seconds, they snatched designer purses and other items before making a hasty getaway. Surveillance footage from the store confirmed that the entire operation was completed in under a minute.

One of the suspects, identified as Shawn Pruitt, a 27-year-old resident of Henderson, Nevada, was apprehended by a reserve officer. However, Pruitt didn't go down without a fight. He resisted arrest and allegedly assaulted the officer by throwing punches. Thankfully, a mall security guard came to the officer's aid, and after a brief struggle, Pruitt was successfully taken into custody. Two of the stolen purses were also recovered during this arrest.

The rest of the suspects managed to escape before additional officers arrived on the scene.

Shawn Pruitt had an outstanding warrant in Nevada for an unspecified charge, and in California, he faces a slew of charges, including robbery, organized retail theft, possession of burglary tools, and assault on an officer.
