Suspected Serial Rapist Arrested after Years-Long Investigation

Sacramento, California: Authorities have arrested a 35-year-old man, Kabeh Cummings, residing in New York, suspected of being a serial rapist responsible for multiple sexual assaults occurring between 2010 and 2013. The suspect was taken into custody in New York and has been extradited to Sacramento.

In March 2010, a victim was walking home when she was attacked from behind and assaulted before the assailant fled. The victim reported the incident after regaining consciousness. A similar incident had taken place in February, and both victims underwent evidentiary examinations.

DNA samples collected from the victims were entered into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) at that time, but there were no matches, and the case went cold.

During a press conference, Sacramento Police Chief Katherine Lester mentioned another incident from September 19, 2013, where a victim was threatened, assaulted, and subjected to sexual assault. DNA evidence from this case was also submitted to CODIS with no results, and the case remained unsolved.

In 2018, the Sacramento Police Department, in collaboration with the DA's office and cold case detectives, revisited these cases. They created a DNA profile using biological evidence from the earlier cases and discovered that all three cases matched the same person.

Cummings was identified as the suspect, and it was found that he had relocated to New York City. At the time of the crimes, he was living in Sacramento and working for the city.

On August 29, Cummings was arrested by the New York City Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and he has since been extradited to Sacramento. He is set to be arraigned in Sacramento Superior Court on multiple charges, including kidnapping, rape, and sodomy, which could result in a maximum sentence of over 180 years to life in prison.

The arrest marks a significant development in solving these cold cases that have haunted the community for years.
