Tragic Discovery: Missing Netflix Engineer's Body Found

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a Netflix engineer who had gone missing in California last month has been found dead in the waters of San Francisco Bay. Authorities have confirmed that this was a case of suicide.

The Discovery

On August 29, at approximately 11:40 a.m., the Marin County Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division received a call from the California Highway Patrol. They reported an unconscious individual spotted by a passing boat in San Francisco Bay, near the Golden Gate Bridge.

Swift action followed as the U.S. Coast Guard Station Golden Gate rushed to the scene, recovering the lifeless body from the water. Unfortunately, paramedics on standby determined that resuscitation efforts would be futile due to the advanced state of decomposition.

Identification and Autopsy

Identifying the deceased initially proved to be a challenging task. The remains had suffered from prolonged exposure to the aquatic environment and were severely deteriorated. No identification was found.

After meticulous investigation, the subject was identified on August 31 as 22-year-old Yohanes Stefanos Kidane, a native of San Jose, California, formerly from Webster, New York. The subsequent autopsy revealed that Kidane's cause of death was blunt impact injuries and drowning, leading to a ruling of suicide.

The Disappearance

Yohanes Kidane had recently graduated from Cornell University's computer science program in May and had secured a position as a software engineer at Netflix. However, just two weeks after relocating to California's Bay Area, he disappeared.

The San Jose Police Department disclosed that Kidane took a rideshare from San Jose to San Francisco on August 14, but after that date, he was not seen again. Despite their efforts, the department had found no evidence of criminal activity.

Kidane's personal belongings, including an intact wallet with money and his laptop inside his backpack, were discovered near the Golden Gate Bridge, a week before this tragic announcement.
