Tennessee Zoo Unveils Name of Rare Spotless Giraffe

Brights Zoo in Limestone, Tennessee, has revealed the name of its unique, spotless giraffe born in July. This rare giraffe caught the world's attention when it was introduced last month.

The last time a spotless giraffe was born was way back in the early 1970s in Tokyo.

During a recent segment on Good Morning America, the zoo proudly shared the name of the 5-week-old giraffe. After conducting an online poll with nearly 40,000 votes, the zoo settled on the name "Kipekee," which is a Swahili word meaning "unique." Kipekee won by a significant margin of 6,000 votes.

Kipekee holds a special place in the giraffe world as Brights Zoo believes she is the only known solid-colored reticulated giraffe on the planet. The uniqueness of Kipekee lies in her lack of patterns, a rare occurrence last observed in 1972 in Tokyo, Japan.

The giraffe community at Brights Zoo has warmly embraced Kipekee. She is treated no differently from any other giraffe born at the zoo.
