Tragic Collision in Vermont Claims SUV Driver's Life

In a somber incident in southeastern Vermont, an Amtrak passenger train collided with an SUV, resulting in the unfortunate demise of the SUV's driver and injuries to the passenger, as confirmed by authorities.

The victim of the accident, 53-year-old Craig Hudson from Brattleboro, lost his life in the tragic incident that occurred on a Friday in the town of Vernon, home to approximately 2,000 residents, nestled along the borders of New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Hudson's passenger, Shenandoah Gilbert, aged 47 and hailing from Vernon, was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire to receive medical care for injuries sustained during the crash.

Fortunately, none of the train passengers suffered any harm, and the train resumed its journey after a brief delay, as reported by the authorities.

Amtrak Train Continues its Journey

The incident involved Amtrak's train 56, carrying 215 passengers on its route from Washington, D.C., heading to St. Albans, Vermont. The details surrounding the crash have not been disclosed, and further information remains pending.

Currently, a dedicated state police reconstruction team is diligently investigating the accident, with remote support being provided by Amtrak police to aid in the process.
