Tragic Crash in Southern Germany Claims Seven Lives

A vehicle filled with migrants met with a devastating accident on a highway in southern Germany. The driver, attempting to escape a police inspection, lost control, leading to the loss of seven lives and injuring 16 others.

This heartbreaking incident occurred near Ampfing, to the east of Munich, on the A94 highway, which leads to the Austrian border. The van, carrying a total of 23 people, veered off the road and overturned during the attempt to evade the police check.

Authorities have identified the van as a "suspected smuggler vehicle," initiating a homicide investigation. The individuals in the van included Syrians and Turks, while the driver had no specific nationality but resided in Austria.

Among the casualties was a young child, as confirmed by Bavaria's top security official, State Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann. The injured individuals were swiftly transported to nearby hospitals for medical attention.

It's important to note that the van, which was registered in Austria, was designed to accommodate only nine passengers. This meant that many passengers were unable to use seat belts, which significantly increased the risks of the accident.

The driver's reckless actions, injuring himself in an attempt to avoid the police inspection and prioritize his escape, have left authorities speechless. Such inhumane behavior highlights the dangers migrants face, especially at the hands of smugglers.

Germany has been experiencing an influx of migrants in recent months, with the A94 highway being known as a smuggling route. The location of the accident is approximately 31 miles from the Austrian border, which is often used by migrants on their journey to Germany.
