Troopers Injured in Maine Crash During Investigation of "Family Dispute"

Four state troopers were injured in Maine after being struck by a car on the side of the road while investigating a "family dispute," according to the state’s Department of Public Safety. The incident occurred late Sunday night in Hollis, a town just outside of Portland, and the 24-year-old driver allegedly involved is now facing charges.

Troopers Jake Mowry, David Lemieux, Dakota Stewart, and recruit Shane St. Pierre were responding to a family dispute at an intersection in Hollis around 10 p.m., as reported by the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Authorities stated that the officers were conducting interviews in the driveway of a residence when, at around 11:12 p.m., a vehicle traveling eastbound entered the area and "struck all four Troopers."

"The vehicle was operated by a 24-year-old male from Westbrook, accompanied by a passenger," stated the Maine Department of Public Safety. "The reason for the vehicle entering the breakdown lane is currently unknown."

The driver, identified as Tyler Croston by the York County Sheriff’s Office, was taken to a Portland hospital with minor injuries and later charged with aggravated operating under the influence, aggravated driving to endanger, and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.

A 27-year-old female passenger in Croston’s Subaru WRX was treated and released at the crash site, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

"The Troopers were also transported to Maine Medical Center (MMC). Trooper Stewart was treated and released from the hospital with several broken bones in his right foot," stated the Maine Department of Public Safety. "Troopers Lemieux, Mowry, and Trooper Recruit St. Pierre remain at MMC and are being treated for their serious but non-life-threatening injuries."

Images released by authorities depict the damaged car that struck the troopers, with a shattered windshield and apparent damage to its driver’s side front bumper.

One of the injured troopers has already been discharged from a local hospital, the Maine Department of Public Safety confirmed.

Tyler Croston is scheduled for his first court appearance on Wednesday and is presently being held without bail.
