Fiery Crash Claims Lives of Four in Stolen SUV

In a tragic turn of events, a stolen SUV careened into a fiery crash in Maryland, claiming the lives of all four individuals on board. The incident unfolded as the driver attempted to evade a traffic stop, ending in a devastating collision with a tree, as reported by local law enforcement on Sunday.

The victims remain unidentified, their ages and genders concealed due to the severe burn injuries they sustained during the crash, according to a news release from the Prince George's County Police department. This release shed light on the events that transpired in Mitchellville on that fateful Friday.

The sequence of events began around 7:30 p.m. Friday when officers endeavored to stop a Kia Sorento with expired temporary tags. The encounter was brief, as the police attempted to pursue the Kia but eventually lost sight of the vehicle and decided to disengage.

Approximately four minutes later, according to an independent witness, the driver of the Kia, in a risky maneuver, tried to overtake another vehicle by using the shoulder of the road. Tragically, this maneuver led to a loss of control, culminating in a devastating collision with a tree.

The Maryland attorney general's office has determined that this incident did not fit the criteria of an officer-involved fatality. Notably, the crash site was situated over two miles away from the initial attempted traffic stop.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the vehicle had been involved in an armed carjacking in the city of Greenbelt earlier, as indicated in the news release.
