Five Missing in Murcia Nightclub Fire Found Alive

In a relief to their families and authorities, five individuals previously missing and feared dead in a nightclub fire in Murcia have been located, as confirmed by a Spanish official on Monday. This comes as a glimmer of hope amid the tragedy, with the death toll from Spain's worst nightclub fire in 33 years standing at 13, while 24 people have sustained injuries.

Francisco Jiménez, the national government representative in the southeastern region of Murcia, informed Spanish National Television that no additional bodies had been discovered, and there were no longer any missing persons.

Rescue teams, comprising firefighters and police, persisted in their efforts to scour the damaged establishment for clues regarding the fire's origin, which ignited on Sunday in Murcia. They also worked diligently to ensure the building's structural integrity to avert any potential collapse.

The blaze initiated around 6 a.m. in one nightclub and swiftly extended to two others nearby, as reported by the Spanish state news agency, EFE. Tragically, all the fatalities occurred within the first nightclub.

In the wake of this horrific incident, the city council has declared three days of mourning, marked by flags flown at half-staff on public buildings throughout the city.

This heartbreaking event stands as the deadliest nightclub fire in Spain since the tragic loss of 43 lives in Zaragoza in 1990.
