Former State Worker’s Violent Outburst in Police Station Caught on Camera
In a shocking incident captured on police surveillance, a former Connecticut state worker, 51-year-old Suzanne Laprise, carried out a distressing act at the Bristol Police Department. On the night of October 5, Laprise entered the police department with a handgun in hand.
The surveillance footage reveals Laprise repeatedly striking the protective glass that separates the police and records staff from the public area. She then fired multiple shots directly at the glass.
Facing Serious Charges
Suzanne Laprise now faces a series of serious charges, including attempted murder. She is currently held on a $3 million bond.
Dramatic Surveillance Footage
The security video shows Laprise approaching the empty front desk, knocking on the windows with her hand, and violently banging the gun against the glass. While attempting to engage with her, officers had an “open dialogue” with Laprise as she continued to fire rounds in their direction.
No Bullet Penetration
Despite her efforts, the bullets did not penetrate the bullet-resistant glass. Laprise also fired a round into the police station ceiling.
Police Response
In the body camera footage, officers are seen assessing the situation and trying to communicate with Laprise. However, she persisted in firing additional rounds towards the officers. In response, Officer Spencer Boisvert fired two shots in her direction, but thankfully, no one was injured.
Safe Apprehension
Finally, Laprise set the gun down, and multiple officers rushed to apprehend her. They used an electronic defense weapon to secure her before taking her into custody. Following her arrest, Laprise was taken to Bristol Hospital for evaluation.
Charges
Laprise faces a slew of charges, including attempted murder, illegal discharge of a firearm, and carrying a firearm while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Additional charges include the criminal use of a weapon, violation of pistol permit requirements, illegal possession of a large-capacity magazine, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, and breach of peace.
Court Appearance
On October 6, Laprise was arraigned at New Britain Superior Court, and she remains held on a $3 million bond.
