UK weather: Thunderstorms to hit in just days – as Met Office reveals when temperatures will climb again

Get Ready for Warmer Weather in Britain!

If you’re tired of the unpredictable British weather, here’s some good news: it’s about to get warmer towards the end of this month. You know, the kind of warmth that makes you forget all about your umbrella! But before that, brace yourselves, because there are thunderstorms on the horizon.

Normally, this time of year sees temperatures hovering around 11 degrees Celsius (that’s sweater weather, right?). But according to the trusty folks at the Met Office, things are about to change. By the end of September, the mercury might climb close to 22 degrees Celsius. That’s almost double the usual!

Today, expect a mix of showers and sunny spells, especially with the winds calming down up north. However, a cloudy band will bring some rain to the central parts. And when night falls, you’ll still see a blend of dry, clear moments and scattered showers. But keep an eye on that cloud band moving northward.

Friday won’t be your savior from the rain either, especially up north. But most of England and Wales will dry up once the morning mist clears. The South will start warming up a bit. On Saturday, Southern Britain might see some thunderstorms or longer rain spells, while up north remains cool. Monday will finally bring some relief from the humidity.

But, hold on to your umbrellas because the thunderstorms are here to stay next week. Unsettled weather will cover parts of England and Wales with rain or thundery showers. Expect temperatures to be normal for this time of year, but we might get lucky with some warm spells.

Now, the exciting part! From the 28th of September, we might get a late-season treat. Thanks to southerly winds from Europe, temperatures could rise above the average. We’re not talking scorching heat, but a little extra warmth won’t hurt.

Met Office meteorologist Jonathan Vautrey explains, “We may not see necessarily the same extreme heat as this month, but it will allow the temperatures to rise above average.” So, 20 degrees Celsius or even a bit more might be in store.

Don’t expect a repeat of the recent heatwave, but a late dose of warmth in October sounds like a nice surprise. Say goodbye to your wellies, at least for a while!
