Brits Enjoying Late Summer Sunshine
After a weekend of scorching temperatures, Brits are in for a pleasant day with the mercury expected to hit 27 degrees Celsius. The UK has experienced an exceptional September heatwave, with temperatures soaring to at least 30 degrees Celsius for seven consecutive days. However, the weather is about to take a turn with rain on the horizon.
Saturday marked a record-breaking day, with the Met Office declaring it the hottest day of the year, recording a scorching 32.7 degrees Celsius in Heathrow. While the hot weather persisted, a yellow thunderstorm warning covered Northern Ireland, northern parts of England, Wales, and southern Scotland, but it expired on Sunday midnight.
Today, a band of rain and showers is moving toward the southeast, ushering in cooler conditions. Although temperatures will be slightly lower than recent days, they are still expected to reach a pleasant 27 degrees Celsius around London at 5 pm. Most areas will stay dry with sunny intervals, although there may be some scattered showers later in the day. Cooler conditions are expected away from the far southeast.
As night falls, the rain will continue to move southeast, occasionally slowing down. The southeast will remain humid with mist and low clouds, while the northwest will see clearer skies and cooler temperatures, with isolated showers.
Looking ahead to Tuesday, it will be mostly dry and sunny, with rain clearing up by the evening. Temperatures will be more in line with the season’s average, except for the far southeast.
Moving into the rest of the workweek, Wednesday will bring cooler temperatures for everyone, along with some sunshine. However, it will become cloudier with rain later in the day. The weather will remain changeable, with spells of rain expected on both Thursday and Friday.
