SZA’s ‘SOS’ Deluxe Is a ‘Whole Other’ Album and It’s Almost Here

SZA Drops Exciting News About Upcoming Music

SZA, the Grammy-winning artist, isn’t making her fans wait another five years for new music. Just nine months after releasing her much-anticipated second studio album, SOS, she surprised her fans with the announcement of a deluxe version. But this isn’t just a few bonus tracks; it’s practically a whole new album.

At a celebration event for SOS on Friday, September 8, at Brooklyn Navy Yard, SZA (Selána Rowe) unveiled her plans for the deluxe edition. She revealed that it’s going to be called “Lana” and will feature seven to ten songs. Excitingly, it’s set to drop this fall.

During the RSVP-only soirée, fans got a sneak peek at “Lana.” SZA explained that there wasn’t a specific plan for the event. They were simply there to enjoy some of the new deluxe tracks and a few familiar ones. It was all about creating a cool vibe for her fans.

SOS, the Wait is Over

SOS came out in December 2022, marking a five-year gap since her debut album, Ctrl. Her sophomore release made a grand entrance by debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and enjoying a remarkable ten weeks at the top.

MTV Video Music Awards on the Horizon

SZA is poised for a big night at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. With eight nominations, she’s the second-most nominated artist behind Taylor Swift, who has 11 nominations. SZA’s “Kill Bill” is in the running for Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Editing, Best Direction, and Song of Summer. SOS is also up for Album of the Year, and her track “Shirt” is nominated for Best R&B and Best Art Direction.

Exciting VMAs Lineup

However, while SZA won’t be hitting the stage at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, viewers can still look forward to an incredible lineup. Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion are set to perform the television debut of their new single, “Bongos.” Plus, there will be performances from host Nicki Minaj, Video Vanguard winner Shakira, Global Icon winner Diddy, Stray Kids, Lil Wayne, Karol G, Fall Out Boy, Doja Cat, Demi Lovato, and more. The night will conclude with a star-studded tribute to the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, featuring DMC, Doug E. Fresh, Lil Wayne, LL Cool J, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, and the host, Nicki Minaj herself.
