Manhunt Ends with Arrest in Fatal Tennessee Shooting
In a dramatic turn of events, authorities have successfully captured a man wanted in connection with a tragic shooting incident in Tennessee. The two-day manhunt came to a close with the arrest of Jason Dockery, an individual whose actions had gripped the community in Virginia’s Appalachian Mountains.
Dockery’s capture took place around 2:45 p.m. near Maynardville, in Tennessee’s Union County, located just outside Knoxville. This extensive search operation was initiated following the fatal shooting of a woman in Anderson County, also situated outside Knoxville.
The pursuit began on Tuesday when Dockery engaged in a high-speed car chase that ultimately led to Virginia’s Lee County. Upon reaching this point, he abandoned his vehicle and sought refuge in the nearby woods.
Remarkably, by Wednesday evening, Dockery had managed to hitchhike his way back to eastern Tennessee, evading law enforcement’s grasp temporarily.
Shain Vowell, a captain with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, has characterized Dockery as a “person of interest” in this case, a label that had previously been used to describe him alongside the title of a homicide suspect.
As of now, court records in Anderson County do not reveal any recent cases involving Dockery that might indicate whether he has legal representation to speak on his behalf.
The tragic incident unfolded in the Heiskell area, triggered by a 911 call reporting that “a man had shot a woman while stopped on the side of the road.” The victim, later identified as Shystie Ranea Mayberry, lost her life in the incident.
Dockery’s escapade came to a dramatic halt when he abandoned his vehicle in Virginia’s Lee County and fled into the woods near the community of Ewing. As various law enforcement agencies conducted an exhaustive search for Dockery, local authorities issued advisories urging residents to secure their homes and vehicles. Consequently, some schools in the area remained closed for a day.
The U.S. Marshals had offered a substantial reward of up to $5,000 for any information leading to Dockery’s arrest.
This successful apprehension brings some relief to the affected community as authorities work to piece together the details surrounding this tragic incident.
