Surprising Sight: Bull in Passenger Seat Leads to Nebraska Driver’s Stop

Bull Takes a Ride: Unusual Sight on Nebraska Highways

In a surprising turn of events, police in the US state of Nebraska were called to a rather unusual emergency situation. A bull was spotted riding in the front passenger seat of a car. This unexpected sight caught the attention of locals and online viewers alike.

Norfolk police captain Chad Reiman shared that officers swiftly located the car, a modified Ford Crown Victoria sedan, with the bull comfortably seated in the front. This peculiar incident occurred as the car entered the city of around 24,000 residents on a Wednesday morning.

“It was quite a sight to see,” remarked Mr. Reiman, highlighting the surprising nature of the situation.

The owner of the car, Lee Meyer, is known for driving his vehicle in parades throughout the region for years. The car has been modified, with half of its windshield and roof removed to make room for the bull, named Howdy Doody. The bull’s space is secured using a yellow metal cattle gate, which acts as a makeshift door on the passenger side.

To add to the unique appearance of the car, a pair of longhorns has been placed on the vehicle’s hood as an ornament.

“It’s definitely a head-turner,” added Mr. Reiman, emphasizing that the attention-grabbing nature of the car is hard to miss.

Video footage of the incident, captured by News Channel Nebraska, quickly spread online, gathering interest from viewers.

In a recent parade in Burwell, Mr. Meyer proudly displayed a sign on his car, announcing that Howdy Doody’s ride had earned the title of the best car entry in Nebraska’s Big Rodeo Parade.

Interestingly, Mr. Meyer had previously transported Howdy Doody using a suitable trailer during parades. This raises questions about the decision to transport the bull in his car for a 36-mile journey from his Neligh home to Norfolk.

During the traffic stop, it was clarified that Mr. Meyer was not on his way to a parade. Despite this, the police captain let Mr. Meyer off with a warning, on the condition that he turned around and took Howdy Doody back home.

Rhonda Meyer, Lee Meyer’s wife, shared that Howdy Doody has been a beloved companion for her husband for nearly a decade. She mentioned that the bull holds a special place in their family, even though she wasn’t always fully enthusiastic about the amount of money her husband spent on the bull and the car modifications.

Mr. Reiman expressed that while there were clear traffic violations related to Mr. Meyer’s car, the officer decided to issue a warning instead of a citation. He also added that such an incident was a first in his experience as a police officer.

In the end, the bull’s unexpected ride through the city of Norfolk left residents amused and curious about the remarkable bond between man and bull.
