Shock moment Army truck rams through police roadblock near Royal Marines base as driver arrested for ‘attempted murder’

Shocking Incident Unfolds as Army Truck Breaks Through Police Roadblock

In a startling incident near a Royal Marines base, an Army truck forcefully plowed through a police roadblock, leaving authorities in disbelief. The driver’s actions have led to his arrest under suspicion of attempted murder, and he currently resides in police custody.

The incident unfolded in North Fitzwarren, near Taunton, Somerset, at approximately 4:40 pm on a Sunday, prompted by reports of a man making threats to an individual residing in the area. When law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, the 41-year-old man hastily departed from the location in a privately-owned truck, subsequently colliding with two police cars.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the aftermath revealed extensive damage to a total of nine vehicles, including four police cars. As the chaos ensued, the truck also collided with a parked car and a road sign while trying to evade capture.

Desperate to evade capture, the driver continued his reckless journey, eventually reaching the A361 bridge spanning the M5, approximately six miles away. At this point, he abandoned the vehicle, sparking a manhunt that involved aircraft from the National Police Air Service (NPAS).

The manhunt yielded results when, just 25 minutes later, the suspect was apprehended under the grave suspicion of attempting to murder police officers and causing multiple instances of criminal damage.

As a consequence of this dramatic event, a section of Norton Fitzwarren has been cordoned off for investigation purposes, with forensic teams actively working at the scene. In a statement, the Avon and Somerset Police reported, “The man left the address in a large military truck when officers arrived before driving the vehicle into two police cars blocking the road, causing them extensive damage. Thankfully, no police officers or members of the public were hurt in the incident.”

Moreover, the situation on the M5 at Taunton took an unexpected turn, as compassionate lorry drivers parked their HGVs beneath the overbridge to assist a “person in crisis.” A notable display of solidarity amidst an otherwise perplexing situation.
