Shooting Incident in Boston’s Dorchester Neighborhood Leaves Five Injured

In a disturbing turn of events, a shooting incident took place on Sunday evening at a housing development in Boston, leaving five individuals wounded, including a critically injured teenage girl. The incident unfolded around 8:30 p.m. in the city’s Dorchester neighborhood, with reports indicating that over a dozen gunshots were fired. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection to the incident.

Boston’s Police Commissioner, Michael Cox, along with Suffolk County District Attorney, Kevin R. Hayden, have made a public appeal for assistance in locating the individuals responsible for this violent act. Commissioner Cox urged the community, especially those residing in the area, to come forward with any information, emphasizing, “If you’ve witnessed anything unusual or noticed any suspicious vehicles in the vicinity, please inform us.”

Mayor Michelle Wu expressed her deep concern and condemned the violence, highlighting the need for families with young children and teenagers to feel safe, rather than living in fear of gun violence. She expressed her frustration, stating, “I’m angry, I am upset as a mom, as someone who has been working with all of our teams to make sure we can do everything possible to create opportunities in our city.”

Mayor Wu emphasized the urgency of removing firearms from the streets, acknowledging that the city must act swiftly to address this pressing issue.

This unfortunate incident follows closely on the heels of another shooting less than a month ago, where gunfire wounded at least seven individuals near Boston’s annual Caribbean festival. However, authorities have confirmed that this incident was unrelated to the festival itself. In response to that shooting, two suspects were apprehended, and multiple firearms were recovered by the police. Fortunately, the victims were transported to local hospitals, and their injuries were not life-threatening.
