Royal Family Steps In to Modify Script for Meghan Markle’s TV Show
In an intriguing twist, the Royal Family took action to prevent Meghan Markle from using a particular word on the TV show “Suits,” as reported by the show’s creator, Aaron Korsh.
Korsh revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that a word, namely “poppycock,” was removed from a script due to concerns that it could be manipulated in a negative manner. The word was intended to be used in a script where Meghan’s character, Rachel, engages in an argument with her partner Mike. This was intended as a subtle reference to British slang, in light of Meghan’s royal in-laws.
To Korsh’s surprise, palace officials were actively reviewing scripts for upcoming episodes and offering their feedback. Korsh explained, “The Royal Family did not want her saying the word. They didn’t want to put the word ‘poppycock’ in her mouth.”
The reasoning behind this intervention appears to be a preventive measure against potential misrepresentation. Korsh speculated, “I presume because they didn’t want people cutting things together of her saying ‘c‘. So we had to change it to ‘bulls‘.”
However, Korsh expressed his slight discontent with the change. He had already informed his in-laws about the intended use of the word in the show. While he couldn’t recall the exact source of the modification suggestion, he affirmed that it came from a producer or an agent, rather than Meghan herself.
Korsh empathized with the situation, stating, “I had some sympathy because I wouldn’t want somebody doing that to her either. And the thing is, I didn’t think anybody really would, but also I don’t know. People are crazy.”
This incident sheds light on the intricacies of television production and the unexpected interactions between creative choices and external influences.
