Shocking Incident Unfolds in Peckham Shop

In a startling incident that occurred on Monday in Peckham, South East London, a video has surfaced showing a woman seemingly being forcefully removed from a shop. During the altercation inside the store, she can be seen hitting a man in the head with a basket.

The video, captured by a bystander, captures the woman’s distress as she exclaims, “Get off me, he’s trying to strangle me. Get the f* off me. Call the police! Call the police! This man just strangled me!”

The Metropolitan Police responded to a call from a store on Rye Lane at 1:16 pm on Monday. They reported that an unidentified woman was accused of assault and shoplifting. She was subsequently arrested and released on bail while further investigation into the incident takes place.

However, the video of the incident went viral on social media, leading to protests in the area. Demonstrators holding placards blocked the road outside the shop where the incident took place. The Metropolitan Police have engaged with the organizers of the protest, urging calm as they conduct a comprehensive investigation.

Detective Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh, the local policing commander for Southwark, reassured the community, stating, “We know people will be concerned about a video circulating online of an incident in a shop. Our officers attended on Monday and continue to investigate the full circumstances of what has taken place. The investigation will include reviewing the actions of everyone involved. I would like to thank people in our local community for remaining calm and giving us the time to conduct a thorough investigation. If you have information that may help us, I would urge you to get in touch.”
