Priscilla Presley’s Emotional Reaction to Film Adaptation
Emotions ran high at the Venice International Film Festival premiere as Priscilla Presley, 78, watched the biographical film ‘Priscilla’, based on her 1985 memoir ‘Elvis and Me’, which she co-wrote with Sandra Harmon. The film’s director, Sofia Coppola, received praise for her work, capturing Presley’s life and love with late musician Elvis Presley.
During a press conference, Presley got emotional discussing the experience of seeing her life story on the big screen. Fighting back tears, she shared, “It’s very difficult to sit and watch a film about you, about your life, about your love.” She emphasized the depth of their connection and Coppola’s dedication to the project.
Priscilla and Elvis met when she was 14 and he was 24. Contrary to assumptions, she revealed that their bond was not solely driven by physical attraction. She noted that Elvis respected her age and her ability to listen and provide comfort, making their connection meaningful beyond mere age.
Coppola, the director, also chimed in, understanding the dynamics of young love and empathy that formed between Priscilla and Elvis. The film stars Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi in the leading roles and marks the second recent portrayal of Elvis’ life on screen.
Despite their divorce in 1973, Priscilla remained devoted to Elvis until his death in 1977, preserving his legacy. Their daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, praised the portrayal of her father in the film, expressing pride and a sense of connection.
Reflecting on her daughter’s passing, Priscilla shared heartfelt sentiments about their relationship, emphasizing the family’s unity. The legal aspects of Lisa Marie’s estate were resolved amicably between Priscilla and Lisa’s daughter, Riley Keough.
As the Venice Film Festival celebrated ‘Priscilla’, emotions ran deep as the legacy of Elvis and his impact on the lives of those close to him took center stage.
