In a heartbreaking incident over the weekend, the vibrant city of Oakland, California, witnessed the loss of Kendall Segers, widely recognized as “DJ Pnut” in his music circles and known for his active involvement in the community. This devastating event unfolded when Segers, aged 27, was out with friends, grabbing a bite to eat at a local taqueria early on a Sunday morning.
Local reports reveal that Segers was fatally shot in the 300 block of 14th Street, Oakland, and tragically, he was struck by a vehicle immediately after the shooting. Friends and family firmly maintain that he was an innocent bystander, tragically caught in the crossfire of senseless violence.
First responders, including medical personnel, swiftly arrived at the scene to provide essential medical attention. Kendall Segers was promptly transported to a nearby hospital. Despite their best efforts, he succumbed to his injuries, leaving his loved ones and the community in profound grief.
This heart-wrenching incident has left Segers’ four children without their father, with two of them being younger than a year old. His mother, Kelli, expressed her anguish, stating, “The bullet went through his back and pierced his lung and heart, and then he got run over. You’re taking away a mother’s child, for what?”
Community activist Seneca Scott, deeply moved by this tragic loss, emphasized, “Every individual who falls victim to violence or harm in Oakland is an unequivocal tragedy, but the profound impact of losing a father, a pillar of our community, and a cherished neighbor resonates on a deeper level.” Scott also criticized the timing of the tragedy, occurring amid calls for assistance to combat escalating violence and crime in the city.
Segers’ untimely death is one among a series of tragic incidents in Oakland over the weekend, highlighting the urgent need for collective efforts to address the issue of violence plaguing the city.
