Police Officer Sacked for Alleged Sexual Assault on Crime Victim
A police officer, PC Dermot Dunne, has been dismissed from duty following accusations of sexually assaulting a crime victim with whom he had entered into a relationship. The alleged incident occurred after he had administered a sedative to the victim.
The victim had initially opted not to pursue legal action, but an internal investigation was launched by the police force to examine the allegations against Dunne. After a four-day hearing, he was officially dismissed from his position.
This incident marks the tenth instance of an officer being terminated by Bedfordshire Police due to gross misconduct within the past year. Notably, five of these cases involved allegations of sexual misconduct.
Chief Constable Trevor Rodenhurst expressed strong condemnation of PC Dunne’s actions, describing them as “appalling.” He emphasized that such behavior had no place within their organization and that they were committed to maintaining high standards.
“We are actively working to create an inclusive culture that does not tolerate such behavior or attitudes,” Chief Constable Rodenhurst stated. He encouraged colleagues to report concerns early, enabling timely actions to address any misconduct.
Chief Constable Rodenhurst also assured the public that their reports of misconduct and unethical behavior would be thoroughly investigated. He acknowledged the community’s concerns but affirmed their commitment to identifying and removing any individuals within their ranks who engage in such behavior, ultimately ensuring the integrity of policing.
