Possible Bomb Threat Shuts Down BWI Airport Roadway
Officials at Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) Thurgood Marshall Airport took urgent action on Wednesday afternoon. They temporarily closed a major road leading to the airport to investigate a potential bomb threat. They later arrested a suspect, as reported by various sources.
BWI authorities made an official announcement on social media at 3:10 p.m., informing the public about an ongoing law enforcement investigation on Terminal Roadway. They also mentioned that all vehicles heading towards the airport were being held. If you were inside the lower level terminal, the advice was clear: stay put.
Thankfully, a little over an hour later, at 4:30 p.m., the Maryland Transportation Authority Police shared some reassuring news. They confirmed that the airport terminal road on the upper level was reopening, and they emphasized that there was no longer any threat to public safety.
So, what exactly led to this commotion? According to FOX 5 in Washington, D.C., the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) disclosed that a man had informed law enforcement that he had explosives in his vehicle after parking it at the airport.
When asked for further details, TSA directed inquiries to the lead law enforcement agency handling the case, the MDTA police. The MDTA Police stated, “Maryland Transportation Authority Police have taken an individual into custody. Based on statements made by the individual, officers took precautionary measures.”
The incident is still under investigation as law enforcement authorities continue their work. We’ll keep you updated with any further developments. 🚓🔍
