Nine Juveniles Escape from Pennsylvania Detention Center After Riot

Nine juveniles managed to escape from the Abraxas Academy in Morgantown, Pennsylvania, following a riot at the facility on Sunday night, according to officials. The incident occurred just after 8 p.m., and law enforcement agencies quickly responded to the escape.

The escapees were seen wearing white or gray T-shirts, as reported by the Caernarvon Township Police Department. The situation led to injuries among the facility’s staff.

Multiple alerts were issued to residents near Abraxas Academy, urging those living near Interstate 76 and Route 10 to remain vigilant. In response to the ongoing situation, the Twin Valley School District, located approximately six miles from Abraxas, decided to close all schools and offices on Monday. They also canceled all after-school and evening activities, including a scheduled Board Meeting.

This escape comes on the heels of the recent capture of convicted murderer Danelo Cavalcante, who had escaped from custody in Chester County and was on the run for nearly two weeks. Cavalcante was originally convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend in 2021. During the manhunt, he was spotted on a doorbell camera and managed to elude law enforcement by changing his appearance and stealing a van from a dairy farm.

In an earlier incident this year, an inmate escaped from the Warren County Jail in July. Homicide suspect Michael Burham remained on the run for over a week before being recaptured. Additionally, two inmates, Ameen Hurst and Nasir Grant, escaped from the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center in May but were ultimately taken back into custody after a 10-day search. Several individuals were also charged with assisting in their escape.

The search for the nine escapees from the juvenile detention center in Pennsylvania involves multiple law enforcement agencies. The authorities are working diligently to locate and apprehend the individuals who fled during the riot.
