Patrick Mahomes Clarifies Misinterpreted Message About Aaron Rodgers’ Injury
In an unexpected social media twist, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, 27, found himself in a grammar gaffe that set tongues wagging. On Monday, September 11, during the New York Jets vs. Buffalo Bills game, Aaron Rodgers suffered an ankle injury within the first 5 minutes. Mahomes, taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), expressed his sympathy without proper punctuation, stating, “Hate that man … Praying for the best.” This resulted in confusion among fans.
Quickly realizing his mistake, Mahomes edited the post, turning it into “Hate that, man … Praying for the best.” He lightened the mood with a follow-up tweet: “Knew I was going to need that edit button on here one of these days,” accompanied by a crying laughing emoji.
The internet being the internet, fans couldn’t resist poking fun at Mahomes. “Commas matter bro,” quipped one, while another playfully said, “Thanks @elonmusk lol Near disaster averted!!!!!.” A third chimed in with, “Good save! Rodgers won’t even know.”
As for Rodgers, 39, he suffered the ankle injury after a tackle by Bills edge rusher Leonard Floyd. Medical staff attended to him on the field at MetLife Stadium. Although X-rays revealed no broken bones, he was replaced by backup QB Zach Wilson for the remainder of the game, leaving us in suspense about when he will return to the field.
Before the Jets vs. Bills game, Rodgers talked about the power of manifesting and speaking dreams into existence. He shared, “I visualize [winning the Super Bowl] all the time…being intentional with your words about the manifestation of those thoughts and goals and dreams into reality.”
Patrick Mahomes can empathize with Rodgers’ injury woes. In 2019, he dealt with a kneecap dislocation injury when facing off against the Green Bay Packers—Rodgers’ former team. While the Packers clinched the victory in that match, the Chiefs turned the tables with a win in another regular season game in 2021.
Despite their on-field rivalry, both Rodgers and Mahomes have emphasized their off-field friendship. They even starred together in State Farm commercials in 2019. Rodgers has publicly praised Mahomes for his playing style, saying it reminded him of himself, while Mahomes has acknowledged their close relationship.
When asked if he turns to Rodgers for guidance, Mahomes stated, “I haven’t even thought about that. I might need to. I do have a relationship where I can talk to him and text him and do stuff like that.”
